NEW 2014 Off-road camper Advanced Tent – more camping space.

kimberley offroad camper trailers header

offroad camper trailer advanced tent with 12V fan We all want more space when we are camping inside a tent or caravan. The NEW Advanced Tent design delivers this PLUS provides a great area for split-system air-conditioning, 12V adjustable fan or even a TV/DVD player so you can watch TV while camping.

For 2014 Kimberley Kampers have added a unique extended section to the front wall of our off-road camper trailers. Now the bed head area is even more spacious than before. A simple canvas ‘chute’ extends out over the front storage box and is held in place with adjustable webbing straps. A vinyl insert is then attached to seal off the area.

With two different types of insert we can offer split-system air-conditioning, an area for an adjustable 12V fan for great airflow or simply handy storage space for personal bed-time effects. It’s also a great space for charging smartphones and personal music players with a double 12V outlet mounted between the stalk lights.

The extended ‘chute’ section can be zippered back to the main wall when the extra space is not required – so you have the best of both worlds for quick set-up overnight stays.

Orders for the Kimberley Classic off-road camper trailer skyrocket!

kimberley offroad camper trailers header

off-road camper trailer classicWow! The response to our 2014 Classic off-road camper trailer has been fantastic. With it’s sub-$35,000 price tag, lighter weight and Diesel-powered hot water it’s no wonder Australians are jumping at the chance to take one home.

Let’s take a look at what people are saying about the 2014 Classic off-road camper trailer:

off-road camper trailer family“an off road camper trailer with just the perfect configuration for $35-37,000”
We’ve worked hard at rationalizing features on the Classic to make some items optional that you’d be happy to live without. Over the past 10 years, Kimberley have progressively upgraded their range of camper trailers with features often requested by customers.

It meant that a lot of those “built up” features involved a cost included with every model. After a review of what features are actually utilized by customers, we rationalized the models so that some of these options are now options rather than forcing customers to take (and pay for) items they will never use.

Examples of this list included the Selecta-Swing-Away® adaptor that is welded on the rear of the chassis, includes a set of high Mpa compression tube fittings and a quick connect electrical connection for a secondary licence plate lamp if required. This was quite expensive and included in every model even though less than 10% of customers use a swing-away unit.

You can still choose this in 2014 Models but it is now optional. Likewise with the boat loader mounts, the safe, the all weather window and fan extraction system and other items.

This allowed Kimberley to focus on the feature list that customers list as a core set for a Classic Kimberley Kamper and off course we had to include the diesel hot water system. The new 2014 Kimberley Classic is truly a new Classic and has set a new Standard in off-road Camper Trailers.

off-road camper trailer cooking“The quality far out strips anything else in the market”
Kimberley off-road caravans and camper trailers have always been known for their innovative features, thoughtful design and high-quality construction. What this means for you is that you can trust your Kimberley to deliver good times for your family and depend on it’s high re-sale value when it comes time to upgrade.
“the instant diesel hot water is a luxury not found in any other camper trailers under 40,000”
Some might consider an on-board diesel hot water system a luxury – but we prefer to call it a ‘necessary luxury’. Once you’ve used it there is no going back! We’ve included this easy-to-use system which is plumbed into the stainless steel sink as well as an external shower mixer. The system takes its water from the large on-board 120L water tank.

“the thought in this design with the permanent 25W solar panel constantly charging the batteries means I don’t have to plug in at home outside”
One of the biggest killers of AGM batteries in off-road camper trailers is not keeping them well-charged between trips. Until recently this meant having to keep the camper trailer plugged in to 240V power with battery charger trickle charging the batteries. Now, when storing your camper trailer outdoors you can just use the built-in 25W solar panel to keep the batteries in good shape.
“the weight is close to a tonne and nicely matches my twin-cab ute”
Twin-cab utes are one of the most popular 4WD vehicles in the Australian market so we decided to make sure the Classic off-road camper trailer could be easily towed by the most popular utes around. This means you don’t need a large 4WD to get and explore together. Your work truck becomes your play truck!

Here is the core set of included features which really target family camping:

What is the feedback families give us as necessary for great camping with a camper trailer?

  • Take bicycles with you to keep everyone busy. Kimberley have a number of ways to store them but on a budget, you can place on the folding roof rack and strap down.
  • Keep the little ones on the hard floor of the main section of the camper trailer. This is quiet, warm and you get good visibility of them. Because of the door design, they will generally need an adult or older sibling to open the door which is safe.
  • The hardfloor of the camper trailer is 150mm approx above the ground. There are special velcro strips on both sides of the windows so that it can be sealed up nice and safe from any creepy crawlies.
  • The screens in a Kimberley are midge proof. Unlike others, there are no open sections or small worm holes for midges to get through. Even the second bedroom is totally sealed.
  • The second bedroom is great for older siblings of those little ones that are “independent” (we all have at least one of these!). Again to get in and out of this bedroom requires the main camper entrance
  • Have a easy high strong LED for the main camper trailer.
  • Gas hot water system should never be operated by children. They are just too dangerous. On the other hand, diesel hot water systems are bullet proof with children as they use a simple heat exchange to heat the water. Set the diesel hot water system to a maximum 55 degees c temperature for safety.
  • Fast setup time for the main camper trailer means Dad can set up the camper in less than a minute. Then let the helpers in to place their sleeping bags and personal items on the hard floor or in the second bedroom.
  • inside classic camper trailerWhen the weather turns to a strong gale overnight, you need a camper trailer that will withstand strong winds to stand up to it. Kimberley Kampers are generally the last ones left setup when strong winds blow through. The design of the tent including the second bedroom, will give peace of mind to a family.
  • If you are travelling in winter with zero degree overnights, then a heater is a great add-on. Its not standard in the Classic but easy to add-on and it points to the hardfloor and second bedroom.
  • Meal time can be challenge with family but the Classic Camper is well setup to have at least 2 billys on the boil, lone for pasta and one for vegetables with a griller free for those tasty bits!
  • Then clean up time can be a family affair with one person still inside the U shaped kitchen, one person at the sink for washing up and others on the outside of the preparation area. Altogether you could have 4 people around the kitchen area without tripping over each other!
  • At packup time, roll up the sleeping bags and place on top of the main bed at the rear. Then fold up and fold the secong bedroom into the camper trailer as you go!
  • Happy wife, happy life and we all know what makes her happy: happy family!

Customers love our new air-conditioning in their camper trailers!

kimberley offroad camper trailers header

off road camper trailer air conditioningWe are hearing great things about our split-system air-conditiing for camper trailers:
“We live in the tropics and when it is hot and humid it is no fun, especially when you don’t get sleep. The whether has warmed up very quickly and on our shake down trip we put the air con to good use for the 7 days when needed. It is quiet, cools down well, even the extended bedroom. Honda EU20 ran it without a problem. Earned some major brownie points with the wife.”

The saying “horses for courses” is well understood when travelling. Everyone has different preferences and habits, some of which are sacrosanct. One of these is sleeping in air-conditioned space, cool as a cucumber! Now if you love camper trailers and the way they embrace the bush as your living room, sleeping in airconditioned canvas may have seemed like a tough request. However, at Kimberley we have built a superb airconditioning pak that should meet your needs.

We have built air-conditioned camper trailers before but found there were several problems that had to be overcome for the perfect solution.

  • It had to be a split system so that the condensor and compressor can be located as far away as possible
  • The evaporator part of the split system had to be “inside” the airconditioned space to re-circulate the cool air.
  • There had to be a drain for the condensate from the evaporator
  • The air had to be able to be directed toward the roof so that it would comfortable fall toward the bed at low fan speed
  • It had to have a quiet fan
  • It had to have controls that were easily accessible by either person when sleeping
  • It had to be greater than 2kW of cooling capacity!

air conditioning recirculates inside air of camper trailerThe Kimberley air-conditioning solution involves:

  • changing the shape of the tent body can be easily expanded over the permanently mounted airconditioning eveaporator when you need it!
  • placing the condensor and compressor inside the Gullwing pack, out of the way
  • permanently installing the wiring so that the generator plugs into the normal 240V outside outlet to power the air-conditioning.
  • reach back and adjust bthe temperature or fan speed
  • Have adjustable guides to direct the airflow as you wish
  • is incredibly economical as the cooled air is recirculated.

The air flows at a maximum of 110 litres per second. Thats a lot of air circulating!

As a guide for how effective it is we suggest this scenarion:

  • Outside temperature is 38 degrees and high humidity
  • You have the tropical roof deployed on the Kimberley
  • You have the doors zipped up and 90% of the windows.
  • The fan based heat extraction fan is running in the roof

Then you should achive an inside temperature 10 degrees below the ambient. So in this case it would be 28 degrees BUT the air is very dry and therefore more comfortable.

air-conditioned camperThis kit includes:

  1. Air Handler Unit with adjustable air direction and full temperature and power control – reach through from bed for easy adjustment. Zippered cover protects Air Handler when traveling.
  2. Condenser Unit – Isolated from Air Handler. Located in right side of Delta Gullwing Box. Delta box door can be held down and slightly open to allow air flow but remain protected from the weather and help with noise suppression.
  3. Extended Tent Air Section – this is integrated into the front wall and attaches to Airconditioning unit with velcro, zippered section. If you don’t require the airconditioner, you can zipper this section back to the front wall and use window as normal for airflow – the rest of the time it travels folded up with the tent body inside the camper trailer.

The 2 photos below show the unit when not in use on the left and then when in use on the right.

We have added a deflector shield for the split unit located on top of the Gullwing Pak to improve the aerodynamics when driving!

Q&A

Q: Can i operate this on the on-board inverter?

A: We have designed the same unit to run off the Lithium Batteries in the Kimberley Eco-suite and Kimberley kruiser. A total of 480 Ahrs of Lithium Battery capacity is needed with a large 2700W auto-cutover inverter. This is all too bulky for the camper trailer sowe have not included it as an option. It is also a lot of expense.

Q: Will it cool down the second bedroom that is zipped onto the rear?

A: The fan can be turned up high and uill certainly blow air into the second bedroom. It is located above where you sleep so the higher fan speed will be noisier. An alternative is to locate a second 12V fan in the second bedroom blowing air drom the airconditioned camper trailer tent into the second bedroom.
